MEDAN, 26 February 2010 - Sime Darby Healthcare (SDH), an established and integrated healthcare provider in Malaysia which focuses on leading-edge medical care, has officially launched its first representative office in Indonesia.

The office, located within the new premises of the Medan Medical Center (MMC) in Medan, serves as a medical travel assistance and information centre.

The opening of Medan Representative Office cements SDH’s commitment and desire to contribute to the healthcare industry in Indonesia. SDH’s representation in Medan is headed by Dr Sofian Wijaya, owner of the MMC which is a long-established general medical practice in Medan.

Dr Sofian will assist Indonesian doctors and patients who wish to make enquiries about seeking medical services at the SDH’s flagship hospital, the JCI-accredited Sime Darby Medical Centre Subang Jaya (SDMC SJ) or seeking a second medical opinion through the representative office. The office also assists in arranging medical appointments, airport pick-up service and transfers, affordable accommodation booking, cost estimation of treatment regimes and services, and other forms of medical travel assistance. All recommendations will be made in the interest and welfare of the patients.

In conjunction with the opening of its representative office in Medan, SDH plans to further promote its niche services in oncology and neurosurgery, in addition to latest treatment techniques in orthopaedic and minimally invasive surgeries, among others.

The SDMC SJ’s Cancer and Radiosurgery Centre is a one-stop ultra-modern cancer facility designed to provide patient-focused care in a comfortable and safe environment, while the hospital’s epilepsy management programme is currently the only such comprehensive programme in Malaysia.

The official opening coincided with the launch of the “Promed-SDH e-Healthcard”, which provides value-added benefits and seamless coordination to card-holders who seek treatment at Sime Darby Medical Centres. Benefits include over-the-phone consultation, medical review prior to acceptance of a case and referral of private nursing care services.

During the opening, public health talks by SDH’s medical professionals and free basic health checks were held for the invited guests.

SDMC SJ is a 393-bed private tertiary care hospital which achieved the prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation last October after meeting international health care quality standards for patient care and organization management.
