Diploma In Medical Laboratory Technology
Medical Lab technologists support the physician in carrying out laboratory investigations related to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease in man.

Duration:
- 3-year programme in 6 semesters.
Entry requirements:
- SPM or its equivalent with minimum 3 credits in Mathematics or Science and any 2 other subjects
- Minimum pass in Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics and Science are required.
- Graduates may be employed in medical laboratories, hospitals and public health laboratories, biomedical science research and development institutes, teaching hospitals and universities, and pharmaceutical and forensic laboratories.

What is Medical Laboratory Technology?
- A science competency-based programme involving laboratory investigations related to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease in man.
- A programme that provides theoretical, practical and clinical learning experiences.
- Using sophisticated laboratory instruments and tests to analyze a variety of samples such as blood, urine, sputum and tissues.
Who is a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT)?
- A member of the health-care team.
- Equipped with the knowledge and skills to perform analysis on a variety of specimens such as blood, urine, faeces, sputum and tissues.
- Provides information (results) rapidly and accurately to doctors for the treatment a prevention of disease.
- Has a caring and professional attitude, meticulous work habits, fine motor skills, good manual dexterity.
- Works in medical laboratories, hospitals and public health laboratories, biomedical science research and development institutes, teaching hospitals and universities, pharmaceutical and forensic laboratories, etc.
Course Objectives
- To train Medical Lab Technologists with knowledge and skills in the multi-disciplinary approach of medical laboratory technology.
- To meet the needs of diagnostic lab services in government and private sectors, locally and abroad.
- To promote life-long learning and professional development among the graduates.
Course Information
- Medium of instruction: English & Bahasa Malaysia.
- Methods of conducting courses: Conventional classroom teaching such as lectures, tutorials, IT, self-directed learning, problem-based learning, demonstrations, practical sessions and laboratory skills practice (lab postings).
- Duration of study: 6 semesters in 3 years (full-time study).
- Credit requirement to graduate: 93 credits.
